Once saved always saved?

I have had this conversation before with friends of mine. I was undecided and still kind of am. I am more on the side of once saved doesnt mean that your safe. Get it? I know that many christians believe that you need to accept the holy spirit into your heart and be baptised by water in order to be saved. Then are you saved from then on even if you walk off that path? I would say no. There are other christians who say that you also need to have spoken in tongues in order to prove that you received the holy spirit and that if you had never spoken in tongues that you were going to the fiery place. Anyways isent it about your heart and God seeing whats inside it? Not about what you may have "accepted" years before you died? I was once a christian but no longer am will I go to heaven indefinetly or will I have to believe again before I can go? I am interested in what you all have to say on this topic.
